Specimen #6 Brachythecium velutinum,  Brachythecium Moss

Common Name: Brachythecium Moss

Collection Date: September 15, 2016
Habitat: Found on tree base/tree roots
Location: Nelson Ledges
Description: Appears to look like Velcro, very rough and hard leaves

Key Steps: 4 Narrow, 6 Mat, 7 Tree Bases and Tree Roots, 8 Light. Found the picture that best suits the sample I have.
Specimen #5 Palustriella commutate, Curled Hookmoss



Name: Palustriella commutate
Common Name: Curled Hookmoss
Family: Amblystegiaceae
Collection Date: September 22, 2016
Habitat: Found on rock near water
Location: South Chagrin Nature Reserve
Description: Moss was in a giant patch. It was very strongly stuck to it substrate. Looks and feels very soft.

Family: Permeliaceae
Collection Date: September 15, 2016
Habitat: Found growing on the bark of a living tree
Location: Nelson Ledges
Description: Has a white green color, looked very "frilly" or very ruffled
Key Used:  Common Lichens of Ohio Field Guide
Key Steps: Intro Key p 3, Foliose Lichens p 24-56, looked at what was closest to the initial sample to identify lichen(don't have the initial sample picture)(PCR was also used with no findings yet)

Name: Lepraria neglecta
Common Name: Zoned Dust Lichen
Family: Stereocaulaceae
Collection Date: September 22, 2016
Habitat: Found on Cliffside rock near a river/creek
Location: South Chagrin Nature Reservation
Description: Blue-green to almost a white color. Looks to be a crustose lichen because of it very bumpy and distinct characteristics.
Key Used: Common Lichens of Ohio Field Guide
Key Steps: Intro key p 3, crustose lichen p 13-21, found the one that looks most like the one that I originally saw on the rock(do not have a picture from the initial findings).

Description: Very small, moist and damp

Habitat: Found on rotten logs and stumps
Location: Nelson Ledges
Description: Terrestrial, not submerged in water. Leaves are very small, bottom of leaves ovate and the lance towards the tips
